What is PSI?
The best and simplest definition of psi was given by Daryl J. Bem and Charles Honorton in a 1994 paper in the Psychological Bulletin, and it goes as follows (source Wikipedia):
The term psi denotes anomalous processes of information or energy transfer, processes such as telepathy or other forms of extrasensory perception that are currently unexplained in terms of known physical or biological mechanisms. The term is purely descriptive: It neither implies that such anomalous phenomena are paranormal nor connotes anything about their underlying mechanisms.
Thus psi refers more to something unclear to today's science. It does not confirm or infirm the existence of such phenomenon but englobes related unexplained situations.
As a means of greatly simplifying the text, as well as to get to a better deterministic understanding, we strongly correlate the meaning of both PSI and subject based psychic phenomenon.
While there is a lot of controversy regarding the existence of any psychic phenomenon, there is also much demand for the subject. The main reason for this is that a large percentage of the population normally believes in some kind of paranormal phenomenon, be it relating to precognition, telepathy, telekinesis or other psychic abilities.
The numbers vary depending on the source but always show above 50%. According to a MORI survey 92% believe in the paranormal (view source). Another similar survey done by Great Britain's Daily Telegraph shows that nearly 60 percent of the respondents believe in the paranormal (view source).
So, no matter if we believe or not in such phenomenon, the subject justifies attention and proper investigation to clarify the matter. Furthermore, it is essential to consider normally recommended techniques or approaches in order to allow people to develop any kind of PSI ability, in case it is possible.
This is the context which will be used everywhere in the site. If you don't believe the phenomenon exists, simply discard those and move along to our games section to help us balance the results.
